Callum Hudson-Odoi sends message to Lampard after England U21 3-1 win

Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi said he felt like he was getting back to his best after playing a key role for the England Under-21s in their 3-1 win over Andorra.

The 20-year-old has struggled for regular playing time at Stamford Bridge this campaign, starting just four matches in all competitions for Chelsea.

Hudson-Odoi started brightly at Molineaux, putting the ball on a plate for Curtis Jones to score the first goal of the game in the 27th minute.

Garcia Gonzalez equalised from the penalty spot for the visitors before Ben Wilmot restored the Young Lions’ lead with a fine header.

And Hudson-Odoi finally put the hosts out of sight with a penalty of his own in the 65th minute and there were signs he could finally return to the sort of form that has seen him touted as a future superstar.

Asked about his journey back from his previous Achilles injury, Hudson-Odoi said: ‘I feel like I’m still improving, I’m still trying to get more strength in the calf which I lost a lost of muscle from.

‘But I feel like I’m getting back to my best and hopefully sooner or later I’ll be back to normal as I was before. ‘I just want to keep improving, keep working hard daily and keep getting better day-by-day.’

Hudson-Odoi now hopes he can work his way back into the Chelsea starting lineup if he continues to impress for the club and the U21 side.

‘Of course you want to be in the senior team, you want to be competing up there every time,’ he added. ‘But, no matter what level I’m playing at, I want to try my best and work hard every day and hopefully get into the seniors.

‘If it’s going up and down, I want to make sure I stay up there so want to keep working hard, keep my mentality strong.’
