Ian Wright believes Chelsea were lacking ‘creativity’ in their 1-0 defeat to Everton and says none of the club’s players looked ‘comfortable’ in possession in the game.
Chelsea were far from their best against a well-organised Everton, with Gylfi Sigurdsson’s penalty enough to separate the two teams at the Goodison Park.
Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Olivier Giroud formed a front three for the blues, with Mason Mount the most attacking player in midfield, but they struggled to find a way through.
Two of their most creative stars weren’t in the squad at all as both Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech missed the match with hamstring issues.
And Wright felt the two players could have made the difference, had they been involved in the game. He told Match of the Day: ‘No one was comfortable on the ball.
‘Maybe as a game, if Ziyech and Pulisic were playing – a little bit more creativity – they might have got something. ‘But it wasn’t happening.’
Alan Shearer was impressed by the performance of Everton in defense, adding: ‘Their closing down was really impressive.

‘Whenever anyone was on the ball for Chelsea, they were closed down straight away and didn’t have any space. I thought Everton were brilliant.
‘It was just one of those days. They could have been there, I thought, for another two or three hours and they wouldn’t have scored.
‘You’ve just got to forget that and move on to the next game.’
