Ian Wright hails ‘beautiful’ Chelsea star after Newcastle win

Ian Wright hailed Hakim Ziyech’s latest display as Chelsea enjoyed a 2-0 win over Newcastle United on Saturday.

Federico Fernandez’s own goal in the 10th minute put the blues in front, while Tammy Abraham scored in the second half after a superb run from Timo Werner to complete the win for the London side.

However, Ziyech was unlucky not to register an assist in the first half of the game after his brilliant cross found Abraham, whose header was well saved by the keeper Karl Darlow.

The winger was also close to scoring his third goal for the blues in the second half but Timo Werner’s pass, which would have given Ziyech an easy tap-in, was too soft.

Ziyech was substituted for Olivier Giroud late on but not before Arsenal legend Wright had described the player as a ‘beautiful’ player.

Lampard, meanwhile, praised Chelsea’s ‘dominant’ performance against Newcastle United. ‘I’m pleased,’ the Chelsea boss told BBC’s Match of the Day.

‘It’s a tough match to come here after the international break, the players have all been away.

‘We dominated the game, we could have scored more goals. But the lads dealt with it very well. ‘We lost here last year so it’s good progression to come here and get the right result.

‘We’ve all seen these games before, Newcastle became more positive at the start of the second half, their press was more progressive.’
