Robin Gosens says he didn’t bother asking Cristiano Ronaldo for his shirt again after Germany’s outstanding comeback win over Portugal at Euro 2020.
Germany came from behind to secure a 4-2 victory over Portugal in a thrilling Group F clash in Munich on Saturday.
Ronaldo gave Portugal an early lead in the game but two own goals from Ruben Dias and Raphael Guerreiro put Germany in front just before the break.
After the break, Kai Havertz extended Germany’s advantage before Gosens capped a fine individual performance by scoring his team’s fourth goal.
However, Diogo Jota pulled one back for Portugal but it wasn’t enough to spark a revival and Germany have now registered their first win of Euro 2020
Gosens was named man of the match for his display but the Atalanta defender chose not to ask Ronaldo for his shirt after the game following the Portuguese star’s snub in 2019.
After Atalanta beat Juventus in the Coppa Italia quarter-final, Gosens asked to swap shirts with Ronaldo but the former Manchester United player simply said ‘no’ and walked away.

‘I was completely blushed and ashamed,’ Gosens wrote in his autobiography. ‘I went away and felt small.’
But when asked if he asked Ronaldo for a second time after Germany’s victory over Portugal, Gosens told Sky Sport Italia: ‘In the end I didn’t ask Ronaldo for the shirt, I want to enjoy the victory and this evening. I didn’t look for it.
‘To the Atalanta fans I just say that I love them and see you soon.’
