Manchester United are facing a huge battle to convince Christian Eriksen to move to Old Trafford with the club proving to be a hard sell, according to reports.
The Red Devils have emerged as genuine contenders to sign the Denmark midfielder, who is available on a free transfer at the end of the month after choosing to leave Brentford.
Eriksen has a number of suitors across Europe after impressing enormously since returning to football, with only Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne creating more chances since he made his debut at Brentford.
Erik ten Hag is said to be a big fan of Eriksen and saw him up close when he trained with Ajax’s youth team as he was building up fitness at the end of last year.
But, United have a major obstacle to overcome if they are to convince him to move to Old Trafford, with football.london claiming that Eriksen is keen to remain in London.
The former Inter Milan player spent six-and-a-half years in London while at Tottenham, before relocating back to the capital when he joined Brentford.
Spurs are also reported to have made an offer to bring Eriksen back to the club and are quietly confident of pulling off the deal, with the midfielder wary of uprooting his young family.
Eriksen is also wants to play Champions League football – something United cannot offer – while Spurs are hoping the opportunity to be reunited with Antonio Conte could be a big attraction.
The midfielder initially took some time to adapt to the Italian manager’s style of play at Inter but became a vital part of their title win.
With Denmark’s Nations League games now over, Eriksen is expected to take some time to consider all the offers he has received before deciding his move before the end of the month.
Interestingly, when rumours of United’s interest in Eriksen emerged, it was suggested that he was being lined up as an Frenkie de Jong alternative if a fee could not be agreed with Barcelona for the Dutchman.
But, it now appears Ten Hag wants both Eriksen and De Jong and feels the team have been missing creativity and players who can get on the ball and dictate the play.
