Man Utd fear David de Gea will leave this summer

Manchester United fear David de Gea will leave Old Trafford this summer, according to reports.

De Gea has received ‘tempting offers’ from Saudi Arabia, despite the reports that he verbally agreed personal terms with United over a new deal.

The Spanish goalkeeper’s current contract expires at the end of the month, leaving him free to join other teams on a free transfer.

De Gea’s displays have come under scrutiny in recent months after costly mistakes against Man City and Sevilla.

The Red Devils now fear that that the 32-year-old has played his last match for the club, according to ESPN.

They report that United have decided not to trigger a one-year extension – and that personal terms over a longer deal have still not been officially agreed – with the club becoming pessimistic over their hopes of keeping the shot-stopper.

Man United have been attempting to reduce De Gea’s £375,000-per-week salary, which makes him the top earner at Old Trafford.

Gary Neville is convinced the time has come for United to replace De Gea with the club linked with a number of goalkeepers this summer.

‘You have got to start with a centre forward and a goalkeeper,’ Neville told Metro.co.uk. ‘If you don’t have those two positions fixed in a football team you are massively struggling.

‘It has come to the time where they have to get a top goalkeeper… The reality of it is, David de Gea has had a great career at Manchester United, he has been a fantastic goalkeeper. But now is the time for him to be challenged and get someone in to be that No.1.’
