Petr Cech believes that Chelsea’s goalkeeper, Djordje Petrovic, could have done better to stop Crystal Palace from scoring the opening goal in Monday’s match at Selhurst Park.
During the first half, Palace midfielder Jefferson Lerma scored an incredible long-range shot to give the home team the lead.

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville criticized three Chelsea players, including defender Thiago Silva, for their role in the goal, particularly describing Silva’s clearance as ‘strange’.
However, Petr Cech, a former Chelsea goalkeeper, contends that Petrovic should bear some responsibility for Lerma’s goal.
‘Petrovic drops to the goalline to have a little bit more time to step and push,’ Cech told Sky Sports.
‘But you can step up, gain a yard and close the angle. He had a very good step and push but couldn’t get there.
‘Personally, I would be higher and have a better chance. I think a small touch would have been enough.’
Before the match, Cech shared his assessment of Chelsea under co-owner Todd Boehly, who succeeded Roman Abramovich in May 2022.
He seemed to criticize the American, implying that there have been excessive alterations to the squad and that his strategy of splurging on high-priced transfers has intensified pressure.
During Boehly’s tenure, Chelsea has invested more than £1 billion in players, highlighted by a £106.8m acquisition of Enzo Fernandez and a £115m signing of Moises Caicedo.
