What Raphael Varane did to Douglas Luiz after McTominay’s winner

Manchester United supporters noticed Raphael Varane’s actions towards Douglas Luiz after Scott McTominay’s thrilling game-winning goal against Aston Villa.

Man United secured a 2-1 victory on Sunday, narrowing the gap to Unai Emery’s team to five points and achieving a historic milestone.

Rasmus Hojlund initiated the scoring in the 17th minute, extending his remarkable goal-scoring run.

In the second half, Villa equalized with a close-range goal from Luiz, who appeared to direct his celebration towards Andre Onana.

Luiz gestured towards the goalkeeper, but it ended up backfiring as Manchester United secured a late victory.

Scott McTominay, subbing in for Marcus Rashford in the 73rd minute, scored the winning goal with a header from Diogo Dalot’s cross.

Amid the celebrations for McTominay’s goal, Varane approached Luiz as he retrieved the ball, and they exchanged words before referee Robert Jones intervened.

The clash involving the Brazilian midfielder and the French defender caught the attention of Manchester United fans on social media.

One X user wrote: “Spotted that too, no f**king idea where this myth he’s only here for the money came from. He loves United.”

A second tweeted: “Celebrating so smugly in front of Varane (for an equaliser no less) was so weird. Just like Maupay doing the same thing in front of Maddison. Both were on the losing side eventually.”

A third added: “Luiz wasn’t shimmying then.”

Manchester United had the final say with a crucial win at Villa Park in their quest for Champions League qualification.

Following the game, Erik ten Hag was questioned about Luiz’s celebratory actions.

“I don’t have an opinion on it. I haven’t spoken to the players. It may have fuelled the players. I don’t know,” he said.

“We have to think about our game. Not about the opposition. We always want to control the game and dictate it. That should be our approach.”
