Mikel Arteta has rejected Bayern Munich’s appeals for a penalty following their Champions League 2-2 stalemate with Arsenal on Tuesday.
Thomas Tuchel expressed his outrage at Swedish official Glenn Nyberg for not awarding a penalty to Bayern Munich after Gabriel Magalhaes handled a pass from David Raya, even though play had already been resumed by the referee’s whistle.

Post-match, Tuchel disclosed that Nyberg had referred to Gabriel’s blunder as a ‘childish error’ and chose not to sanction the Brazilian defender for the confusion involving Raya.
‘What makes us really angry is the explanation on the field. He [the referee] told our players that it’s a kid’s mistake and he will not give a penalty like this in a quarter final,’ Tuchel said.
‘This is a horrible, horrible explanation because that means he’s judging our handballs. Kid’s mistake, adult’s mistake, or whatever.’
But Arteta says the Swedish official made the right call as the Gunners did not gain an advantage from the situation.
‘Yeah, I did notice it, especially after where there was a certain reaction from them,’ Arteta said.
‘I think the referees used the law and the law says to use common sense and whether you take an advantage from that situation which there isn’t any advantage.’
Asked if he will speak to Raya & Gabriel about the incident, Arteta said: ‘Just to clarify I think it is worth doing it, so next time just in case don’t do it again.’
