There are reservations at Manchester United regarding Thomas Tuchel’s potential appointment as Erik ten Hag’s successor due to fears of possible conflicts with the club’s executives.
Tuchel is poised to depart Bayern Munich after this season, even as the team approaches the Champions League final. In February, as Bayern’s grip on the Bundesliga title weakened for the first time since 2012, they confirmed Tuchel’s summer availability by agreeing to a mutual separation.

With Ten Hag’s future uncertain following a disappointing second season, United might soon seek a new manager. Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS team are deliberating Ten Hag’s fate and considering alternatives, including Tuchel.
However, The Times reports concerns over Tuchel’s history of disputes with management at his previous clubs.
Tuchel left Mainz in 2014 after disagreements over transfers, and Borussia Dortmund dismissed him in 2017 due to a trust breakdown with the board.
At Paris Saint-Germain, he had a falling-out with sporting director Leonardo, who accused Tuchel of disrespecting the club before his 2020 exit.
Following a change in Chelsea’s ownership, Tuchel’s successful tenure ended abruptly, failing to align with Todd Boehly’s new leadership.
Though Tuchel has led Bayern for just over a year, reports suggest discord with the club’s executives.
Earlier this year, some players reportedly lost faith in Tuchel, but Bayern’s performance has improved since the decision to part ways, though his replacement is still undecided.
After current Austria manager Ralf Rangnick rejected the job on Thursday, Tuchel said his decision to leave Bayern isn’t set in stone, saying: “Everything is possible.” Ahead of Saturday’s trip to ex-club Stuttgart, the tactician explained: “This is an agreement, so this can’t be changed.
“Well, you can change every contract by mutual consent because we had a contract as well and then we agreed on ending it early, so everything is possible. But the answer is the same: the agreement stands and the agreement exists.”
The possibility of Ten Hag moving to Bayern Munich has been considered, given his past experience leading the club’s reserve team between 2013 and 2015. A direct exchange might be beneficial for both sides.
Should Manchester United decide on Tuchel as their new coach, they would anticipate that Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s fresh leadership approach could mitigate the issues Tuchel has encountered at his former teams.
