Guardiola denies Manchester City contract break clause

Pep Guardiola has denied reports that there is a break clause in his Manchester City contract which would allow him to leave at the end of the campaign.

The Spaniard signed a contract last year keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until 2021, but reports had suggested that the deal had an option which allowed Guardiola to leave 12 months early

But Guardiola said: “No, it is not true. I spoke about that one week ago, about my intentions with the club.”

Guardiola has also reiterated that City will not be making any signings in the January window – despite rumoured interest in Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake

“We don’t speak about that. The players we started the season with, we are going to finish with,” Guardiola added. “If something happens, I think it will be in summer time.”

Manchester City will be without Sergio Aguero and John Stones for Sunday’s Premier League cladh with Arsenal, while David Silva is doubtful.

“(Stones) has a muscular injury,” said Guardiola. “I don’t know how long. (Aguero) still hasn’t trained with the team. (Silva) couldn’t train yesterday or today but tomorrow we will see.

“It was a kick in the leg that was painful.”

It has also emerged that the City squad did not attend the club’s staff Christmas party in Manchester city centre on Thursday evening.

Guardiola said: “We played Wednesday [in the Champions League] and we got late back to Manchester, and people were tired.

“We have a game in two or three days. Myself and the players preferred to be at home with the families.”
