Marcelo: I know exactly how to deal with Salah

Arguably the individual match-up of the Champions League final is the one between Marcelo and Mohamed Salah, which the Real defender feels capable of winning.

Liverpool winger Salah is in the form of his life and wouldn’t be the first player to capitalise on his rival’s defensive absent mindedness.

“I know exactly what I have to do, and I know what I need to do to help my team,” said Marcelo on Friday.

“Liverpool are a magnificent team and have had a great season. We have to think about the whole team, not just one or two players, that is how you win games.

“It is a great opportunity to play in the final, and we’re here, as are Liverpool who also deserve it.”

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp even said that Marcelo ‘does not defend’ in the build-up to Saturday’s final but the Brazilian is not disturbed by any analysis of his style.

“I haven’t heard him say it, but heard about it,” he noted. “Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

“I am happy with my work, as are my teammates, the coach and those within the national team too. I do my work with modesty and humility, and have nothing to prove to anyone.”

Having been here on a number of occasions, the left-back gave his view on why Real Madrid are still hungry for a third successive Champions League trophy.

“Our motivation is to wake up, train, play good football, and win every competition we play,” continued Marcelo.

“We have won a lot, but that is in the past and we want to play good football and win more trophies.

“Both teams are similar, they attack hard. We are mindful of what we have to do, but in a final we have to see what will happen then we have to wait to see how it unfolds at the beginning.

“It will be a great show for people who are passionate about football.”

“The things we have achieved are part of the past,” he said. “We always have to look to the future, we have to continue fighting, these are the the things which make you batter.

“His opinion won’t change anything for Zidane. One day you are the worst, the next day you are the best.”
