Alex Telles intervenes in negotiations to force through a move to Man Utd

Alex Telles

Porto defender Alex Telles has urged his club to lower their £18.3m asking price in order for him to get his wish of signing for Manchester United this summer.

The 27-year-old full-back is believed to have already agreed personal terms over a transfer to Old Trafford but the Red devils have had difficulty in agreeing a fee with Porto.

The Portuguese club value Telles at £18.3m but United feel that he is worth around £12m and talks have hit a stalemate in recent days with both sides unwilling to compromise.

But, Telles is conscious that this may be his only chance to get a move to United and the Guardian claim he has already intervened in a bid to force a move to the Theatre of Dreams.

The full-back has only one year left on his deal and he believes that Porto have set an overly-ambitious asking price that could price him out of a dream move to the club.

Telles believes a fee around £12m is more acceptable but United could drag their heels as they know Porto need the money desperately to finance a deal for Sérgio Conceição’s squad.

Telles has entered the last year of his deal and would be able sign a pre-contract agreement with non-Portuguese sides from January 1st 2021 but United want the Brazilian this campaign to provide competition for Luke Shaw.

Should Telles join Solskjaer’s side, he’d become United’s second signing of the summer after the capture of Van de Beek and he’d allow Brandon Williams to move to right-back to challenge Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
