Manchester United star Antony could not live up to his promise after vowing to ‘win the game’ for Casemiro after his red card against Southampton.
Casemiro was sent off in the 34th minute of the goalless draw after a VAR review deemed his challenge on Carlos Alvaraz deserving of a red card.
It was the Brazilian midfielder’s second sending off of the campaign, meaning he will miss the Red Devils’ next four games.
Casemiro was distraught after the decision, realising that he’d let his team-mates down by leaving them to battle on in the game with ten men for 56 minutes plus even added time.
The former Real Madrid star had to be comforted by Lisandro Martinez and Antony after the red card was brandished.
Antony was seen grabbing Casemiro and speaking to the midfielder before he left the field and it’s since emerged that he told Casemiro; ‘I will win this game for you. I will.’
The former Ajax star was on a high after his brilliant goal against Real Betis on Thursday but he was unable to come good on his promise as they drew 0-0 with the Saints.
