What Todd Boehly told Mason Mount in a meeting to stop him from leaving Chelsea

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has spoken to Mason Mount in a bid to persuade him to remain at Stamford Bridge next campaign.

The England international has only 15 months left to run on his deal with the club but he’s rejected Chelsea’s last two proposals over an extension.

The playmaker has attracted huge interest from Tottenham, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Bayern Munich but it’s Liverpool that currently lead the race for his signature.

Contract talks are planned for the end of the season but the longer the Blues leave the issue without a resolution, the more likely it is that Mount will accelerate discussions with Liverpool.

With that in mind, the Athletic claim Boehly has intervened to personally assure Mount that the London side want to keep him.

The conversation occured last Friday after Chelsea’s exit from the Champions League and is seen as a ‘positive’ development by those within the club, as well as Mount’s representatives.

However, should Mount decide to leave Stamford Bridge, Chelsea will demand around £70million to sell the playmaker.

While they would prefer to keep him, that would be a good fee for an academy product entering the last year of his deal.
