That match also marked the abrupt dismissal of Ange Postecoglou by Forest just 17 minutes after the final whistle. Despite that headline, the spotlight at Old Trafford was firmly on Garnacho.
The 21-year-old Argentine joined his Chelsea colleagues in post-match celebrations, though his experience at the City Ground was anything but smooth.
The former United winger — who departed Old Trafford earlier this year — was taken off after just one half, with Enzo Maresca making a triple substitution that included Garnacho.
That tactical shift helped Chelsea secure the win, but it was a challenging episode for Garnacho. It followed a heated exchange with Neto, who expressed visible frustration toward him during the first half, a moment captured by broadcast cameras.
Now that tensions appear to have eased, Fernandes reached out to his fellow Portuguese international, Neto. In a brief social media post, the United skipper wrote: “Chuta que chutas bem.”
The phrase, translated from Portuguese, means: “Kick you kick good.” His comment was accompanied by a heart eyes emoji.
Neto played a pivotal role in Chelsea’s 3-0 triumph on Saturday, scoring from a free-kick and assisting Josh Acheampong’s opening goal.
Reece James sealed the win in the final moments, securing all three points for Chelsea, while Postecoglou was dismissed shortly after the match concluded at the City Ground.
Reflecting on the incident between Neto and Garnacho, TNT Sports analyst Peter Crouch commented: “Chelsea were a bit sloppy. Credit to Enzo [Maresca] for making those changes.
“I know Neto was really frustrated with him. He was crossing the ball and not getting on the other side. Neto was really frustrated with him.”
Garnacho also shared his thoughts online after the match. Posting on Instagram, he wrote: “Happy for these three important points!” along with blue and white heart emojis in his story.
