Chelsea’s stance on sacking Pochettino after Arsenal defeat

Chelsea’s management is set to evaluate Mauricio Pochettino’s role at the season’s conclusion, following demands from a faction of fans for the Argentine’s dismissal after Tuesday’s 5-0 loss to Arsenal.

Arsenal, under Mikel Arteta, put forth a commanding performance against their city adversaries, with Kai Havertz netting twice, Ben White scoring a brace, and Leandro Trossard opening the scoring, securing a victory for the Gunners.

The significant defeat at Emirates Stadium marks Chelsea’s 11th Premier League loss this season, dealing a blow to their aspirations of qualifying for European competition next year.

The inconsistency of Chelsea this season was highlighted once more, contrasting with the glimmers of potential shown in their narrow 1-0 loss to Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley just days prior.

In the wake of the substantial loss to Arsenal, some of Chelsea’s fanbase have reiterated their calls for Pochettino’s removal.

MailOnline suggests that assertions of Pochettino retaining his managerial position at Chelsea regardless of the season’s outcome are ‘hasty.’

Although the players hold the manager in high regard, his tenure will undergo a comprehensive assessment after the season concludes.

Rio Ferdinand, commenting post-match, advocated for the Chelsea leadership to afford Pochettino an additional season to enact improvements.

‘I think it will be a crime, really [if Pochettino was sacked], if they have sort of invested and recruited all of these young talents,’ Ferdinand told TNT Sports.

‘The potential they have under the roof is phenomenal. They’ve got a fantastic academy that’s working really well and then to have brought in Mauricio and just give him one season, to integrate all of that at the same time and to still get results at the same time, to expect that he’s almost expecting miracles, I think he [Todd Boehly] needs to give him time.

‘They need to give him that time to really set the foundation for the football club we’ve seen at moments, there’s been ill discipline, etc, the penalty situation, he’s trying to narrow them.

‘Things on the head. He needs time to implement all those things, not just the tactics, but setting the culture and stuff and with so many new players, these things can’t be expected to be achieved overnight.’

Former Chelsea player, Joe Cole, also insisted that is it ‘crucial’ that Pochettino remains as head coach at Stamford Bridge.

‘It’s a dangerous game in the current climate, especially a club like Chelsea, where, where the manager, the turnover of management has always been quick,’ Cole said.

‘It’s always been times when you thought managers would be safe, a game was lost, and then there’s been a changeover. So I think it’s crucial that the club back him.

‘It’s crucial that the club give him the keys in the transfer market, I think not just to bring the players in route, but to also get the players out the door that he thinks have run their race as a Chelsea player.

‘I think they do those two things. I think they’ll be fine. Too many times in football, we see so many managers given jobs. It’s not working on the pitch.

‘I’d like to see the people signing the players and putting their names a little bit of accountability there, you know, because it’s always Mauricio every press conference, win, lose or draw at Chelsea, he talks about how young the squad is and how much time he needs.’
