Arsenal supporters must resist going ‘overboard’ about Gabriel Jesus because players like Erling Haaland are still better than the Brazilian.
That’s according to former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, who says Arsenal fans have a tendency of overhyping players.
Jesus has made a superb start to life at the Emirates since his £45m arrival from Manchester City earlier in the summer.
The Brazil star has scored twice during the Gunners’ 100% start to the Premier League campaign but his performances have been more impressive, with Jesus looking a sharper version of the player he was at the Etihad.
Arsenal supporters were accused by Richard Keys of ‘overcelebrating’ their 2-1 victory against Fulham on Saturday, which has annoyed Gooners.
But Ferdinand says Arsenal fans have a tendency of ‘going overboard’ and he’s warned them not to do the same with Jesus after his ‘unreal’ start at the Emirates.
‘I think that Jesus’s impact has been unreal,’ Ferdinand said on FIVE. ‘I think that he has been a fantastic signing, an absolute major signing for Arsenal, but please don’t go overboard like all Arsenal fans do.
‘When you have got [Erling] Haaland banging in a hat-trick at the weekend and you are going, ‘Oh, Jesus is overshadowing him still’, what are you talking about?’
Haaland arrived as Jesus’ replacement at Manchester City and the Norwegian star has made a sensational start at the club.
The former Dortmund player has netted six times in five games for City, including a hat-trick in a 4-2 comeback against Crystal Palace last week.
