‘You’ve Fernandes, two others, couldn’t play’ – Pep Guardiola criticizes Man Utd

Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, has criticized Manchester United after his side’s Premier League derby 6-3 win over the Red Devils.

Guardiola said that United could not play despite having players like Burno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez.

Man City defeated Man United at the Etihad Stadium, thanks to three goals each from Erling Haaland and Phil Foden.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Guardiola said: “In general we were really good, how aggressive we were without the ball. They could not play.

“When they have Lisandro [Martinez] and Bruno [Fernandes] and [Christian] Eriksen, they have quality, as we saw a little bit in the second half. In the first half, we were there in that third after the quality of the players we have up front made the difference.

“[City’s desire] happened from day one we’re here. This is non-negotiable. Win or lose but the effort and desire and help each other. Many things we can do better, and some players are still not good today and have to improve.”

On Foden, Guardiola added: “His desire, how he runs, is the main thing. He deserves to play every time and then he has quality. He is a young player and it is a reality. He deserves everything.

On Haaland: “The numbers speak for themselves. He has done this before here. It is not our way. Always we try to help him in our environment. We have this incredible sense that he always looks starving and is so competitive. The numbers are scary, honestly.

“He sees 10 players running without the ball with effort for each other so he wants to do it. They visualise it, they see it. It’s why we have had success in the last few years. Behind it is effort and desire to do it.”
