Gabriel Martinelli to miss out on Brazil World Cup spot to Man Utd’s Anthony

Gabriel and Gabriel Martinelli are heading for World Cup heartbreak with the Arsenal duo set to miss out on Brazil’s 26-man squad.

The central defender has been in superb form for the Gunners this campaign and scored the winner as Mikel Arteta’s side beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The former Lille star had been hoping to force his way into Tite’s squad after forming a very good partnership with William Saliba.

Brazil are currently blessed with plenty of quality at centre-back, with players like Thiago Silva, Marquinhos and Militao all battling for a starting berth.

Gabriel had hoped to be the final choice but Journalist Bruno Andrade says he is set to miss out on the 26-man squad.

Andrade has posted on Twitter and revealed the full squad of Brazil heading to Qatar.

Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus is set to be included, while Manchester United winger Antony appears to have beaten Martinelli to a spot.

Casemiro, Fabinho, Firmino, Fred and Alisson Becker are other notable Premier League inclusions, while Ederson and Bruno Guiamares are set to be called up for the squad.

Gabriel will definitely be devastated to muss out but it could be positive for the Gunners as he will be able to recover before Premier League returns at Christmas.

Meanwhile, Manager Tite is still set to name his squad for the upcoming tournament in Qatar, which starts on November 20, in the coming days – but it seems his choices are now public.
