Gallagher ignores Pochettino instruction after Chelsea red card vs Brighton

Conor Gallagher defied Mauricio Pochettino’s directives, leading to his dismissal in Chelsea’s Premier League encounter with Brighton.

Despite Chelsea securing a 2-0 advantage through goals from Enzo Fernandes and Levi Colwill, the situation took a turn when Brighton scored a goal. Gallagher received a red card for a clumsy tackle on Billy Gilmour.

This incident follows last week’s frustration for Pochettino when Reece James received a red card, having accumulated two yellow cards. Unfortunately, Chelsea went on to lose that match 4-1 against Newcastle United.

As reported by football.london, Pochettino said: “Look, this type of thing happens in football. Of course, (I am) disappointed because we should finish with a player but it happens and we need to accept.”

Gallagher’s impulsive actions were surprising, especially considering he had become a crucial element in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.

As a consequence, he is set to sit out the upcoming midweek match against Manchester United, having featured in all 13 Premier League games prior to this incident.

Despite the setback, there is optimism for the 23-year-old, given Pochettino’s forgiving stance towards James earlier in the week. The Blues’ manager offered words of encouragement to his captain.

“He feels sorry about the situation because it was tough for him and it was tough for the team, but it is always good when the player takes responsibility. He is doing really well.

“It’s a thing that can happen in football. It’s good when you realise because then you can learn for the future.”

Considering Chelsea’s successful handling of their opponents, Pochettino might be inclined to provide Gallagher with reassuring words.

There is an anticipation that Gallagher will reclaim his spot in the starting XI for the upcoming match against Everton next weekend.
