Erik ten Hag confirms Man Utd star will leave club in January transfer window

Erik ten Hag is anticipated to be actively involved in the January transfer window, and he has already confirmed the expected departure of Donny van de Beek from Manchester United.

United is reportedly seeking reinforcements in four different positions as the transfer window approaches.

However, Ten Hag has indicated that he will not hinder Donny van de Beek’s departure, as the player has endured a challenging period at United.

Van de Beek, who arrived from Ajax in a £35 million transfer, initially appeared to be a promising signing under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Unfortunately, he struggled to secure a regular spot in the team and was eventually loaned to Everton in January 2022, but the loan stint did not yield significant results.

Despite the expectation that reuniting with Ten Hag, with whom he had previously worked at Ajax, would rejuvenate his career, Van de Beek’s fortunes did not improve.

He made only seven Premier League appearances last season before a severe knee injury brought an end to his campaign.

Despite the lack of potential moves during the summer, Van de Beek has seen limited playing time, accumulating just two minutes in the league.

Having excluded him from the Champions League squad, Ten Hag acknowledges that it is time for Van de Beek to move on, as he has played only 15 league matches over the last two seasons.

Asked about the 26-year-old in a recent press conference, Erik ten Hag said: “I can see he has to play for his career and for everything.”

During the summer, Lorient and Real Sociedad were among the clubs rumored to be interested in acquiring Van de Beek’s services.

His aspiration is that a transfer to another club will enable him to reclaim a spot in the Netherlands squad. Despite being a regular earlier, his most recent appearance for the national team dates back to March 2021.
