Greenwood tells agent he wants to complete ‘dream move’ away from Man Utd

Manchester United’s forward, Mason Greenwood, has expressed his desire to fulfill a ‘dream’ by making a move to Barcelona, as conveyed to his representatives.

At 22 years old, Greenwood embarked on a season-long loan with Spanish side Getafe, where he showcased his talent by scoring five goals and providing four assists in 19 appearances.

Despite United’s initial plans to reintegrate Greenwood into the first-team squad following the resolution of legal issues earlier in the year, the club eventually determined that his future would be better served away from Old Trafford.

As Greenwood’s loan period at Getafe concludes at the end of the season, his future has become a ‘top priority’ for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS.

His impressive performance in Spain has garnered interest from several La Liga clubs, including Barcelona, the defending champions.

The Sun reports that the Catalan giants are eager to finalize a deal for the striker, with Greenwood expressing to his advisors that a move to the Camp Nou would be a ‘dream come true.’

A source told the newspaper: ‘Barcelona want to sign Greenwood, and he wants to move there. The next step is for the clubs to come to an agreement.

‘Manchester United want to sell the player and the manager has accepted Greenwood won’t be returning.

‘The view is that it is best for all parties to have a clean break. As talented as Greenwood is, a return to the club when they are at the start of a new chapter, with new owners, is regarded as a backward step.’

Greenwood has acclimated smoothly to his life in Spain and has recently expressed his contentment, stating that he would be ‘pleased’ to extend his stay at Getafe beyond the ongoing season.

‘I adapted pretty quickly. [My] team-mates took me under their wing and I’ve just been happy ever since, coming here and training, playing the games. I’m happy.

‘The fans mean a lot to me. The best feeling so far is when I scored my first goal here at the stadium and it meant a lot to me, I heard the fans quite a lot.

‘We had the training day and a lot of fans came out to watch. We appreciate the fans. They’re like an extra man out there on the pitch when they’re there supporting us.’
