Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has pinpointed the defeat against Manchester United as the moment that left him in disbelief this season.

Manchester United has faced several disappointing outcomes this season, notably a 3-0 loss to AFC Bournemouth at Old Trafford in December in the Premier League.

Their struggles extended to the Champions League, where they ended up at the bottom of their group, competing against teams like Bayern Munich, Galatasaray, and FC Copenhagen.

However, it was United’s 4-3 loss to Copenhagen in November that particularly caught Guardiola off guard, along with the Danish club’s triumph over Galatasaray.

Speaking ahead of Man City’s Champions League 16 clash against Copenhagen, Guardiola said: ‘We have seen what Copenhagen can do against Manchester United and Galatasaray in a really tough group.

‘When I saw what they did I thought ‘wow’ – they will be starving to compete and full of energy.

‘I don’t know what their rhythm will be like but hopefully we will be at a good level to compete.

‘We have to be prepared mentally. We have to be ready to suffer as it will be a tight game. Normally, my gut doesn’t lie to me.’

Speaking to TNT Sports before kick-off on Tuesday night, Guardiola added: ‘The Champions League is special. Especially away in the last 16.

‘We know we can be out here, it happened in the past. [Erling Haaland] got two goals in the last game and step by step, he’ll get there.’
