Roy Keane has slammed the ‘dreadful’ displays of Dean Henderson and Joe Lumley after Middlesbrough’s FA Cup penalty shoot-out win over Manchester United.
The Red devils took the lead through Jadon Sancho with the visitors equalising in the second half of the game through a goal from Matt Crooks.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford, Fernandes and Anthony Elanga were all guilty of missing chances for United to put the game to bed with a penalty shoot-out deciding the contest after no breakthrough after 120 minutes.
Middlesbrough had a dramatic 8-7 shoot-out victory with Elanga missing the decisive spot kick, sending his effort straight over the bar.
While the previous 15 penalty kicks were of high quality, Keane was not too impressed with either goalkeeping performance.
‘The keepers were dreadful,’ Keane told ITV. ‘The two goalkeepers were dreadful in the penalty shootout. They got nowhere near them.’
Ian Wright, who was also on punditry duty, agreed, telling ITV: ‘He [Chris Wilder] said they had been practising. It looked like it.
‘Both goalkeepers looked like they had no chance the way they were diving all around the place. ‘It didn’t look like either of them were getting anywhere near them. They were dreadful.’
Henderson was just making his third start of the campaign for United having shared first-team duties with David de Gea last season.
