Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp is reportedly ready to step up his bid to sign Sevilla defender Diego Carlos, but will face big competition from Barcelona for the player.
Despite also having the best defensive record in the Premier League this campaign, Klopp is refusing to rest on his laurels and is still looking to see how he can improve his team next season – with Carlos a major target, according to reports.
The 27-year-old centre-back has had a good debut campaign for Sevilla since he joined from Nantes for £16million last summer.
His performances have attracted several top sides across Europe, with the Reds, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid all aiming for his signature.

However, according to Spanish publication Sport, Klopp not only sees the defender as the ideal partner to Virgil van Dijk but he has enough funds to complete the transfer too.
The report claims that Liverpool believes Carlos’ physical game would see him adapt easily in the league and have the finances to activate the player’s £65m release clause, if necessary.
Although, a report published this week said that Carlos could be available for a cut-price fee of between €45m and €50m, due to the current financial issues within football.
Carlos’ current deal keeps him at Sevilla until 2024 and when asked about the reports of him being linked to Anfield the defender maintained that he has told his agent to contact him only about “firm” offers.
