Frank Lampard has allayed fears Tammy Abraham suffered a serious injury after the forward was taken to hospital during Chelsea’s Champions League game with Valencia.
Chelsea boosted their hopes of reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League after securing a 2-2 draw against Valencia on Wednesday.
Mateo Kovacic cancelled out Carlos Soler’s opener at Valencia and VAR intervened to hand Christian Pulisic another goal in the second half.
Valencia’s Daniel Wass earned the hosts a point when his 82nd-minute cross beat Kepa Arrizabalaga and both sides wasted chances to score a winner in the dying minutes.
The entertaining draw came at a cost for Chelsea, however, with England star Abraham making way at half-time after a nasty collision with Ezequiel Garay.
Tammy Abraham looked in discomfort as he made his way around the pitch with Chelsea’s medical staff and was seen holding his side.
Asked about Abraham’s condition, Blues manager Lampard said: ‘It was a bang on the hip, it might not be as severe as we first thought.
‘I am not sure [how serious], he is in the dressing room now so that’s a positive.’
Reacting to Abraham’s injury, former Chelsea player Joe Cole told BT Sports: ‘This lad doesn’t milk anything. He was in a lot of pain so hopefully he’s okay.’
Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle added: ‘If it’s something internal I’d be really worried. He was in agony.’
On Chelsea’s draw with Valencia, Frank Lampard said: ‘We nearly won it, we nearly lost it. It’s very difficult to come here and get something and it is a positive that it’s still in our hands.’
