Lindelof snubs Ronaldo but includes Lionel Messi as he builds his ‘perfect player’

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof omitted former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo and instead included Lionel Messi when selecting his ideal player.

As part of Manchester United’s ‘My Perfect Player’ series, the Swedish player crafted his dream footballer based on specific abilities.

Lindelof compiled two distinct lists, one exclusively comprising current and former Manchester United teammates, and another encompassing players overall.

Surprisingly, the defender excluded Cristiano Ronaldo from both lists, but he featured Lionel Messi in the overall dream player category, citing Messi’s iconic left foot.

For the Manchester United players’ composite, Lindelof chose: Bruno Fernandes (Right foot), Luke Shaw (Left foot), Harry Maguire (Heading), Marcus Rashford (Pace), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Tackling), Anthony Martial (Finishing), Casemiro (Strength), Marcus Rashford (Skills), Christian Eriksen (Vision), Raphael Varane (Mentality), Scott McTominay (Stamina).

The overall composite included the following players: Andrea Pirlo (Right foot), Lionel Messi (Left foot), Marouane Fellaini (Heading), Kylian Mbappe (Pace), Paolo Maldini (Tackling), Robin van Persie (Finishing), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Strength), Eden Hazard (Skills), and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Mentality).

Lindelof and Cristiano Ronaldo were teammates for one and a half seasons before Ronaldo’s departure from Old Trafford following an explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

Lindelof joined Old Trafford in 2017 from Benfica for €35 million. He has made 246 appearances for the club and is under contract until the summer of 2024, with a 12-month extension clause.

Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov, reflecting on his playing days, chose Robbie Keane as his preferred strike partner over the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney.

The two formed a formidable duo during their time at Tottenham Hotspur from 2006 to 2008. In a Prime Video Sport interview, Berbatov expressed Keane as his favorite attacking partner.

He said: “It was probably Robbie Keane because we just struck a great partnership together immediately.”

Keane and Berbatov collaborated in 80 matches, contributing to a total of 17 goals and aiding Spurs in clinching the League Cup in 2008.

Alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, the former Bulgarian international participated in 39 matches, jointly notching up five goals.

Additionally, Berbatov and Wayne Rooney shared the field for 99 matches during their tenure at Manchester United from 2008 to 2012, collectively scoring 12 goals.
