Manchester United and Chelsea are on high alert as reports indicate that Barcelona has set an asking price for Frenkie de Jong.
The Dutch midfielder joined Barcelona from Eredivisie club Ajax in a deal valued at around €75 million in 2019.

Since then, he has established himself as a pivotal figure for Barcelona, amassing 206 appearances across various competitions and scoring 16 goals. Moreover, he has contributed to the team’s triumphs in La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the Supercopa de España.
In 2022, there were strong rumors linking De Jong with a move to Manchester United, with the club reportedly submitting a £70 million bid for his services.
However, the 26-year-old opted to remain with Barcelona despite the offer from Old Trafford.
Following the unsuccessful pursuit of De Jong, Manchester United proceeded to secure the signature of Brazilian midfielder Casemiro from Real Madrid for £60 million.
As the summer transfer window approaches, De Jong’s future is once again uncertain. According to reports from Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona has set an asking price of £85 million for the midfielder.
Speaking about his future with Dutch media outlet NOS, De Jong said, as per the Daily Mail: “Possibly. But I’m very satisfied at Barca. It’s always difficult to say. For now I feel good here.
“I am in the club where I always wanted to be, where I dreamed.”
Following the recent developments, both United and Chelsea may consider reigniting their interest in De Jong and making another attempt to bring the midfielder to the Premier League.
In addition to United and Chelsea, it’s understood that French club Paris Saint-Germain is also monitoring De Jong’s situation closely.
Barcelona will return to La Liga action this weekend as they face relegation-threatened Celta Vigo on Saturday afternoon.
