Man Utd handed major Marcus Rashford injury boost

Manchester United have been handed a major boost with Marcus Rashford looking set to return earlier than expected after the shoulder surgery.

Rashford played through the pain barrier during the second half of last campaign, as well as at this summer’s European Championships tournament.

Two weeks ago, the England international underwent a shoulder surgery to correct the problem, effectively ruling him out of up to three months.

But the 23-year-old is reported, according to The Sun, to be weeks ahead of schedule on his road to recovery, with the Red devils hopeful that he could be back playing next month.

Rashford is having two rehab sessions a week and there is hope that he can return to light training within the next few days, despite having to wear a brace on his shoulder.

Last week, Lee Sharpe questioned whether Rashford should’ve gone to the Euros and instead had his surgery sooner, but conceded the player would be a huge loss for United.

‘I think it’s a shame because he’s needed this operation before he went to the Euros. He had very limited minutes [in the Euros] and it might have been better for him to stay at home and have the operation a little sooner. But that obviously didn’t happen, and I think he’s going to be very tough to replace,’ he told Metro.co.uk.

‘I don’t think the club will go out to buy someone to replace him because it is only two to three months and I think it’s a chance for people like Mason Greenwood to step up and show what he can do.’

United, without Rashford, started their Premier League campaign with a 5-1 win at home to Leeds.

They continue their season away to Southampton on Sunday buoyed by the news that one of their major players is edging closer to a return to the first-team.
