Man Utd set to offer Bruno Fernandes huge pay rise in new contract

Manchester United are set to offer Bruno Fernandes a new contract with a huge pay rise that will see him double his current wages, despite only signing for the club in January.

The Portuguese midfielder has become a key part of the Manchester United team since joining from Sporting that the club are ready to offer him a much better one.

Fernandes earns £100,000-per-week on his current contract, which has an option to be extended by another year, but the Mirror claims that the Red Devils are happy to increase it to around £200,000-a-week.

The 26-year-old is currently nowhere near the top earners at the club, with David De Gea on £350,000-a-week and Pogba taking home around £300,000-per-week.

Players like Jesse Lingard and Dean Henderson are closer to Fernandes’ wages and the club want to change the situation to reflect his importance to the team.

Fernandes was a surprise exclusion from the starting XI against West Ham, but he came off the bench with United 1-0 down and helped turn the game around and secure a 3-1 win.

The former Sporting star set up Paul Pogba’s equaliser, his fourth assist of the campaign, before Mason Greenwood and Rashford completed the scoring for the team.

Fernandes has now scored 15 Premier League goals and provided 11 assists in the competition since his arrival, while he has also netted six goals in European competition and got one goal in the FA Cup.

‘It’s not easy leaving these players out, that’s the thing,’ said Solskjaer. ‘But you have to try and manage the whole season and the playing time. And injuries and fatigue, and all the little things that you’ve got.

‘It’s a great position to be in. At half-time, you know you can do things that change things in games. It certainly helped with the changes, even though there were slight injuries that made us have to do them.’
