Man Utd in talks to terminate Jadon Sancho’s contract in ruthless approach

Manchester United has engaged in talks regarding the potential termination of Jadon Sancho’s contract if the club is unsuccessful in finding a buyer for the winger.

The playmaker has been isolated from the team since a falling-out with Erik ten Hag in August, where Sancho accused the Dutchman of dishonesty in a now-deleted social media post.

Despite being required to train individually due to his refusal to apologize to Ten Hag, United is now considering selling Sancho in January.

However, the challenge lies in the fact that only a few clubs worldwide could afford Sancho’s reported £250,000-a-week wages in addition to a £50 million transfer fee.

Sky Sports reports that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his incoming consortium are determined to prioritize ‘cultural’ decisions over financial ones in the transfer window, taking inspiration from Arsenal’s handling of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mesut Ozil under Mikel Arteta.

INEOS, the consortium, is inclined to follow Arsenal’s example, even if it means not recouping a significant portion of the £73 million spent on Sancho.

Despite the desire to ideally recover a substantial part of the initial investment, the club is currently paying the winger £1 million per month to train individually.

Consequently, discussions have taken place at the board level regarding the potential termination of Sancho’s contract.

INEOS aims to depart from Ed Woodward’s strategy of granting contract extensions to unwanted players to ‘protect’ their value.

Manchester United has often found itself burdened with players like Phil Jones and Eric Bailly due to the club’s decision to extend their contracts.
