Julian Nagelsmann sends message to Chelsea after Lampard agreement reached

Julian Nagelsmann has held positive discussions with Chelsea and is keen to take charge in the summer, according to reports in Germany.

After sacking Graham Potter on Sunday, Chelsea have held talks with both Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique this week as they look to secure a replacement.

But in a shocking move, Chelsea have now turned to Frank Lampard, who has agreed to return to the club as caretaker manager until the end of the campaign.

Lampard’s second stint at Stamford Bridge allows the club to prolong their search for their next permanent manager, although it also leaves them open to losing possible targets such as Nagelsmann, who has been linked with PSG, Real Madrid and Tottenham since being sacked by Bayern during the international break.

But, Sky Germany claim that Chelsea’s initial discussions with Nagelsmann have been ‘positive’ and he sees a move to the Premier League as his ‘next goal’.

Lampard, meanwhile, is expected to take training at Chelsea on Thursday ahead of their Premier League game at Wolves on Saturday.

The 44-year-old, who was sacked by Chelsea in January 2021, will then lead the club for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash against Real Madrid next Wednesday.

Lampard has been out of work since he was sacked by Everton in January. At the time of his exit, Everton had not registered a win in their last 10 games in all competitions and were 19th in the Premier League.

Chelsea are 11th in the Premier League and 14 points behind Manchester United, who are fourth and have played one game less.
