Napoli confirm Ancelotti as new manager

Napoli have confirmed the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as the club’s new boss.

Ancelotti held talks with Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis in Rome last week before taking over from Mauricio Sarri, whose exit was confirmed on Wednesday.

The 58-year-old Italian has been out of job since he was sacked by Bayern Munich in September 2017, while his last job in Italy was with AC Milan, who he left in 2009 to become Chelsea manager.

Ancelotti is believed to have turned down several other offers including the Italy national team job to sign a three-year deal at Napoli.

Sarri, meanwhile, is also considering an offer from Russian club Zenit St Petersburg despite interest from Chelsea.

He was visited by club officials last week and during a meeting, he was presented with a deal to succeed Roberto Mancini.

De Laurentiis took to Twitter on Wednesday to show his appreciation for Sarri’s work at the club over the last three years.

Napoli have twice finished as runners-up to Juventus in the past three campaigns under Sarri.
