Nkunku signs Chelsea contract ahead of £53m transfer this summer

RB Leipzig player Christopher Nkunku will become a Chelsea player on July 1st after signing his contract with the London side.

The Blues agreed a £53m deal for the Frenchman in December but there were fears that a failure to finish in the top-four would see the player change his mind on a move to Stamford Bridge.

Despite spending around £600m since Todd Boehly took charge only nine months ago, Chelsea are outsiders for Champions League qualification.

Nkunku has emerged as one of the most promising playmakers during his time with Leipzig, who he joined from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019.

But, despite the interest from PSG, Manchester United and Liverpool, Chelsea have eventually won the race to sign Nkunku.

The France International completed medical checks with the club at the end of 2022 and Fabrizio Romano claims the playmaker has now signed his Chelsea contract.

Nkunku will officially become a Chelsea player at the start of July and Potter will hope that he forms a key part of a new forward line.

Chelsea will also consider signing Joao Felix on a permanent basis if he is available for the right price, while players like Christian Pulisic, Aubameyang and Hakim Ziyech may leave.

Potter is keen to sign another midfielder, particularly with the major doubts over N’Golo Kante’s future at the club.
