Mauricio Pochettino is pushing for Chelsea to sign Celta Vigo’s Gabri Veiga ahead of Liverpool, according to reports in Spain.
The Blues are looking to bolster their midfield options ahead of the new campaign and have Brighton’s Moises Caicedo as one of their major targets.
Pochettino is also set to see a number of midfield departures this summer with Kovacic likely to join Manchester City, while N’Golo Kante is finalising his move to Saudi Pro League team Al-Ittihad.

Manchester United are also continuing with their plan to sign Mason Mount, while Loftus-Cheek is also expected to leave.
According to reports, Chelsea are in the race to sign Veiga from Celta Vigo but they are facing serious competition from Liverpool.
But, the report claims that Pochettino has personally taken steps to convince Veiga to move to Chelsea as he has contacted the player’s representatives to make the club’s interest known.
Celta Vigo narrowly missed out on relegation from La Liga last season but Veiga was one of their key performers with 11 goals and four assists.
Veiga still has three years left on his contract with the La Liga club but his deal includes a €40m (£34.4m) buyout clause.
Chelsea also remain in discussions with Villarreal to Villarreal striker Nicolas Jackson.
It’s believed that personal terms have been agreed with the 22-year-old and the West London club are now weighing up whether to trigger his €35m (£29.8m) release clause.
