Paul Pogba speaks out over “stupid mistake” vs Arsenal

Paul Pogba has conceded his mistake was the major reason why Manchester United lost 1-0 to Arsenal.

Pogba’s foul on Hector Bellerin gave Aubameyang the chance to score from the spot at Old Trafford, with that goal enough for a 1-0 Arsenal victory.

United laboured for long periods in the match and the defeat makes it four league games without win at home for Solskjaer’s side this campaign.

The France international accepted he and his teammates must improve after taking the blame for the foul that led to their defeat.

Speaking to MUTV, Pogba said: “Very disappointing. The team, the goal, everything. It was the opposite of the Champions League game, where we were good, aggressive and dangerous enough to win the game.

“Today, the mistake made us lose the game – my mistake. Like I said, my mistake. I shouldn’t do that, I have to be better in the box.”

Pogba admitted Bellerin had been clever to draw the foul from him. It is now the third time in recent home matches that he has conceded a penalty.

“I ran back with him and when he gets into the box, you have to be more clever, fresher in the box,” added Pogba.

“I put my hands up for this mistake, it shouldn’t happen. Of course the team has my back and everything but me personally I’m hitting myself to give away a penalty like that and lose 1-0 to a stupid mistake.

“I thought I would touch the ball before him, but he just touched the ball before me and after that I knew I was too late. It wasn’t a tackle really. like I said, I have to be so sure about this.

“It was clever from him, that skill made us lose the game today.”
