Sergio Ramos aims dig at Real Madrid after completing PSG transfer

Sergio Ramos appeared to take a dig at his former side Real Madrid after completing his move to Paris Saint-Germain on Thursday.

The 35-year-old defender left Los Blancos at the end of last month after 16 glorious years as his contract at Santiago Bernabeu expired.

The Spanish veteran was linked with a whole host of elite teams, among them include Manchester United and Chelsea, but he has now signed a two-year contract with PSG.

After the move was officially confirmed, Ramos took to social media to share a picture of himself holding a PSG jersey.

And he sent a message towards his former employers as he tweeted: “The best place to keep on dreaming, the best club to keep on winning. We’re going to fight with everything we have for everything. Allez PSG.”

Ramos left Real Madrid under controversial circumstances, and he said at the time that he did not want to leave but was driven out by club president Florentino Perez.

Speaking at his farewell ceremony, Ramos said: “I would like to clarify that I never wanted to leave Real Madrid, I always wanted to continue here. The club offered me the chance to renew my contract, but with COVID and everything it kept being put off.

“Then in the last months the club made me an offer of one year, with a drop in salary. Money was never a problem, the president knew from my mouth that my issue was contract length — I wanted two years, for me and my family.

“I was never told that there was an expiry date to the offer. I thought it was just part of the negotiation – as always has happened over 16 years. But then I was told time had run out.

“I don’t know why this offer had an expiry date, without being told, while there was a negotiation. Maybe I misunderstood, but nobody had told me the offer could be withdrawn.”

On the signing of the Spanish defender, PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi said: “Today, Paris welcomes one of the greatest players of our era. We are delighted to announce that Sergio Ramos has joined us.

“Sergio is a complete footballer, one of the best defenders in the history of the game. He is a born competitor, a leader and a true professional. His vast experience and ambition is in perfect synergy with those of the club.”
