Jesse Lingard was inundated with praise from his Manchester United teammates after scoring two goals on his debut for West Ham in the 3-1 win over Aston Villa.
Lingard completed a loan move to the London club at the end of last month having found first-team chances limited at United this campaign and made a good start to his West Ham career.
He was handed an immediate place in the starting lineup and was a bundle of creativity and energy against Aston Villa, linking up well with Said Benrahma in the first half.
West Ham’s dominance paid off in the second half when Tomas Soucek got the first goal and then Lingard scored an excellent left-footed strike.
Villa pulled a goal back through Ollie Watkins, but Lingard then wrapped up three points with his second goal, firing a powerful effort towards goal that Martinez parried into his own net.
Lingard was named Man of the Match and did not show any signs of rustiness despite having played so sparingly under Solskjaer at United.
After posting a couple of photos from the game alongside the caption ‘Perfect start, two goals, three points’ Lingard was met with posts from Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire.

United’s loan army also congratulated Tahith Chong, who is on loan at Club Brugge, and Diogo Dalot, who currently plays with AC Milan, both praising Lingard’s scintillating performance.
Former teammates even sent him a message, with Daley Blind also sliding into his comments. Lingard will now be hoping he can maintain this outstanding form for the duration of his stay at the club.
