The five-time Ballon d’Or winner then played a pivotal role in the remarkable development of the Saudi Pro League by joining Al Nassr in 2023.
Despite facing a dip in form towards the end of his second tenure in England, Ronaldo has made a significant impact in Saudi Arabia, emerging as the top scorer in world football in 2023 with 54 goals for Al Nassr and Portugal.
Addressing the audience at the Globe Soccer Awards, Ronaldo elaborated on what this achievement meant to him.
“I was the best goalscorer. I had to beat the young lions, like Haaland for example, so I’m proud,” He said.
Ronaldo was also asked who his favourite team to watch is, and the Portuguese star’s answer may raise a few eyebrows.
“Manchester City did amazing congratulations on their season. Players, coach, superb…”, Ronaldo explained at the ceremony.
“Finally they win the Champions League, they probably deserved it two years ago. I enjoy seeing them playing”.
Given Ronaldo’s association with the red side of Manchester, this revelation may surprise some, but it’s challenging to dispute the validity of the 38-year-old’s perspective.
