Sadio Mane to be named in Senegal’s World Cup squad despite suffering tendon injury

Sadio Mane’s World Cup dream appears to be alive with the Bayern Munich forward set to be named in the Senegal squad, according to reports.

The former Liverpool star emerged as a major doubt for the tournament after injuring his ankle on Tuesday in the clash against Werder Bremen.

Mane hobbled off and looked in serious pain when he left the Allianz Arena pitch. In a statement, Bayern Munich said: “Sadio Mane has picked up an injury and he won’t be available for game against Schalke.

“Further tests will follow in the next few days — Bayern is in contact with the medical team of Senegalese Football Association.”

Despite the concerns, Get French Football News claim that Mane will be named in the squad on Friday.

According to sources, Mane “remains calm” about the whole situation. The 30-year-old has been in good form for Bayern after his summer move from Liverpool, netting 11 goals.

But Mane has been even more clutch for his country this year. Firstly, he scored the winning penalty in February as Senegal beat Egypt to win the Africa Cup of Nations for the very first time.

He repeated the feat two months later when he once again scored the all important kick against former Liverpool pal Mo Salah in a World Cup play-off to help Senegal secure their place in Qatar.

Mane is his country’s all-time leading scorer and would be one of the most experienced players in Aliou Cisse’s squad if he eventually makes it.
