Sergio Reguilon wants to sign for Chelsea after the club held advanced discussions to sign the Real Madrid left-back, according to reports.
Frank Lampard is keen on signing a new left-back but the blues have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Ben Chilwell as Leicester want over £80m for the player.
Chelsea have been looking at other alternatives and Nicolas Tagliafico and Robin Gosens are other potential options.
But according to ESPN, Chelsea are favourites to sign Reguilon and negotiations for the Madrid star are now at an ‘advanced stage’.
The report claims the defender has the option of remaining with Sevilla but he wants to move to the Premier League.
Chelsea are now in talks with Real Madrid to determine if the deal will be a loan or a permanent transfer worth £22.5m.
Reguilon joined Sevilla on loan from Madrid last season and was outstanding as he helped the team finish fourth in the Spanish league table.
And Madrid are open to selling the defender this summer window in order to raise enough funds.
Lampard, however, conceded after Chelsea’s defeat to Arsenal on Saturday that he is concerned by the number of individual mistakes made by his players this camapaign. ‘The numbers do not lie,’ said the Chelsea boss.
‘We are trying to play a certain way. I know that teams who are now at the top of the game, Liverpool and Manchester City, have been through similar periods – I am not saying we will get to their level – in the early stages when their manager was at the club of conceding too much.

‘It is a work in progress for me. I can’t shelve it in another direction, we have to work defensively as a group.
‘But some of the individual errors we are making, clear individual errors, some in the final, which clearly cost us goals cannot be there if you want to keep moving forward.
‘There are areas to improve defensively and of course we have to improve. ‘We have to work as a group to make that better. That is clear. We are not hiding from that.’
