Solskjaer casts doubt on Man Utd future with contract admission

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has thrown huge doubt over his Manchester United future after conceding that nobody has spoken to him about a new contract.

It comes as his current deal expire at the end of next campaign. Solskjaer signed a three-year contract after taking over the club on a permanent basis in 2019.

That happened after taking charge initially on an interim basis at the club after the sacking of Jose Mourinho back in late 2018.

However, this season has been a rollercoaster for the Norwegian coach, who has battled back from talk over a crisis to moving the Red devils to the top of the Premier League.

They currently sit second in the table behind Manchester City while earlier in the campaign, they were sent crashing out of the UEFA Champions League at the group stage.

But talk has now turned to Solskjaer’s contract, which will expire in the summer of 2022, but the United manager has admitted there have been no approaches over a contract renewal.

Solskjaer told VG when asked about the situation: “I have not thought about that, and we have not discussed it at all. “I am just focusing on doing my job and, as you say, part of the job is to stabilize things.

“We have a job to do in order to find consistency on the pitch. Outside the pitch it is still a crisis if you lose a game. If you concede a goal in stoppage time against Everton, it still creates big headlines. That can happen in football.

“But on the inside it is more stable. We feel like we are on our way towards what we sat down and discussed, what we planned.”

Late in January, Solskjaer said he was thankful to his superiors at the club for sticking by him during tough periods.

He said: “I’ve said it many a time we looked at the squad, looked at situation we were in, we put a longer term plan in place. We knew there would be some patchy periods and that we would have to stay strong mentally.

“The leadership they have shown has been very strong and steady and I’m very grateful for the communication that has been open and honest all of the time.”
