Solskjaer facing five-man injury list for Man Utd’s clash with Southampton

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could face a five-man injury list ahead of their game with Southampton on Sunday with his defence hit hard by recent blows.

Unuted will go to St. Mary’s looking to end Southampon’s seven-game unbeaten run and stop the club from moving back up into the Champions League spots.

Solskjaer could now be without defensive duo Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka after both players were both substituted during their victory over Istanbul Basaksehir.

“Hopefully they’ll be ready for the weekend,” Solskjaer told BT Sport. “It’s back problems for Victor and he had an ankle problem, Aaron, so there was no point taking any more chances and risking more swelling to it.”

The Red devils will also be without Phil Jones and Luke Shaw, meaning Alex Telles will likely start at left-back with Brandon Williams on the bench.

Jesse Lingard is also self-isolating after being in contact with someone who tested positive for coronavirus.

“I hope [it will be] nearer to four weeks, but with hamstrings you can’t risk anything and he’s still not training with us,” said Solskjaer, speaking about Shaw.

“Hopefully, near four but more likely close to six. Phil [Jones] has been injured and he had an operation and he’s been working really hard to get back.

“He’ll hopefully get fit during December. That was a natural thing when you’re injured, you can’t really be in the squad can you?

He added: “He’s working really diligently and he’ll be coming back soon.”
