Manchester United have confirmed Marcus Rashford will undergo a shoulder surgery after he played through the pain barrier to help England reach the final of European Championships this summer.

Rashford had fitness issues during the second half of last campaign, but chose to delay surgery in order to give himself a chance of representing England.

The 23-year-old was barely used by Gareth Southgate during the Euros before he missed a crucial penalty in the shootout against Italy at Wembley this month.

In a statement released on Friday, the Red devils said: ‘Following consultation between Marcus, the manager, club medical staff and specialists, Marcus will undergo surgery imminently to resolve his shoulder injury.

‘He will now focus on his rehabilitation in order to return as soon as possible.’

According to the Telegraph, Rashford could miss close to 12 weeks which would rule him out of vital Premier League and Champions League matches.

Rashford is one of the club’s key players so to be without him for the first few weeks of the campaign is a huge blow for Solskjaer. But, the signing of Jadon Sancho has boosted United’s attack.

The former Dortmund star is capable of playing on the left and is capable of filling in for Rashford, while Anthony Martial can also play down that flank, as well as Daniel James.
