Thomas Tuchel has ‘requested’ Chelsea sign Eder Militao from Real Madrid this summer transfer window, according to reports in Spain.
Real Madrid spent around £42.7m to sign Militao from Porto in 2019, making the Brazilian star their most expensive defensive signing.
The Blues were also linked with a move for Militao three years ago but lost out to the La Liga giants who met his buy-out clause at Porto.
After two underwhelming campaigns at the Bernabeu, Militao has become an increasingly key member of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, playing 31 games in all competitions this term.
Militao, who is currently contracted to Real Madrid until 2025, has also made 21 appearances for Brazil, including 11 last year.
Spanish outlet AS claim Tuchel is a huge admirer of Militao and wants Chelsea to bring him to Stamford Bridge in the summer, particularly if Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen leave.
Germany international Rudiger is expected to leave Chelsea at the end of the campaign and has already attracted interest from clubs like Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Chelsea also need to prepare for life after Thiago Silva, with the 37-year-old defender likely to leave west London after his latest contract expires in the summer of 2024.
Despite Tuchel’s interest in Militao, Chelsea may find it hard to prise him away from Madrid, with the player content in the Spanish capital and Real reluctant to allow him leave after his impressive development.
Tuchel was reported to be ‘frustrated’ by Chelsea’s inactivity during the January transfer window but is set to be backed in the summer with at least three major signings.
