Van de Beek blasts Man Utd teammates after defeat to Crystal Palace

Van de Beek

Donny Van de Beek scored a goal on his Manchester United debut but was left disappointed as they were beaten 3-1 by Crystal Palace in a display he described as ‘not good enough’.

The midfielder came off the bench in the 67th minute and scored 13 minutes later, but the goal was not enough to rescue the Red devils from being 2-0 and then 3-1 down.

It was a very poor performance from the United as they were outplayed by the Eagles, who secured three points with a goal from Andros Townsend and a brace from Wilfried Zaha.

Van de Beek felt the tempo of the game was too slow and the team performance was totally unacceptable, having played only over 20 minutes of the game.

‘That was not good enough today,’ Van de Beek told MUTV. ‘Last week in training, it looked really good. There was lots of quality and we played fast but today we played too slowly.

‘First match for the club, a day you want to win. It doesn’t matter how, you want to win and I’m really disappointed that we lost 3-1 at home, that’s really bad.

‘I think against an opponent like Crystal Palace you need to speed up the game to create something. That was not good enough.’

It was United’s first Premier League match of the campaign, while Crystal Palace beat Southampton 1-0 last week. Along with differing pre-season schedules, Solskjaer feels his side were not sharp enough.

‘They [Crystal Palace] prepped with four friendlies while we have had one friendly. It showed, we are way short,’ the Norwegian manager told the BBC.
