Raphael Varane issues fresh injury update as he’s close to Man Utd return

Raphael Varane claims he is working hard to recover from the injury that has kept him out of the Manchester United team and concedes the rigours of the Premier League have been tough to adapt to.

The Frenchman, who swapped Real Madrid for the Red devils in the summer, has not played for his new team since the start of November after suffering a series of injuries.

Varane initially hurt his groin while representing France in October, missing two Premier League games, and was then forced off with a hamstring injury against Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League on November 2.

Caretaker manager Michael Carrick said it would still take some time before Varane is back in the team, but he has been stepping up his rehabilitation and was out on the grass at Carrington in the past few days.

Varane is now hoping he will be back in full training soon to start helping the team once again, while he has used his time on the sidelines proactively to make some changes to help him acclimatise to the Premier League.

‘I’m working very hard and, you know, footballers are like F1 [cars] so sometimes we have to change something and to improve the motor,’ he told MUTV.

‘I think I have to change a little thing because it’s a big difference, a big change. ‘The kind of work is different work so I have to adapt. I know that and I’m working very hard to be at my best as quickly as possible.

‘I know it’s big work but I’m ready to do it, to try to improve. I’m very excited to come back to help the team.’

United struggled in the absence of Varane, losing games against Leicester City, Liverpool, Man City and Watford.

But, they have rebounded since Solskjaer’s dismissal, drawing with Chelsea, beating Arsenal and then securing a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace in Ralf Rangnick’s first game in charge – their first clean sheet in five Premier League matches.
