Chelsea veteran defender Thiago Silva is set to sign a new one-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
The Brazilian signed an initial 12-month deal after his arrival from PSG on a free transfer last summer and despite having injury problems, Silva has shown he’s lost little of his quality.
Silva worked under Tuchel in French Ligue 1 and the German coach appreciates his leadership, even if he hasn’t been able to call on him as much as he’d like.
Chelsea inserted a one-year extension option in Silva’s initial deal but it needed both teams to agree in order for it to be activated.
Silva believes he has more to give at the club and Le10Sport reports he has agreed to extend his deal, meaning he will stay at the London club until he’s at least 37.
Tuchel has brought Antonio Rudiger back into the team since he replaced Frank Lampard and the club are now set to fast-track contract talks with the defender.
Rudiger was set to leave the blues last summer, with Chelsea even ready for him to join rivals Tottenham.
