Manchester United have made an approach to sign Atletico Madrid player Marcos Llorente, according to reports.
The 26-year-old midfielder has been an important part of Atletico Madrid’s efforts to win the La Liga title this campaign.
The Spaniard has scored nine goals and has eight assists in the league for Diego Simeone’s team, while he also has a goal and an assist in the UEFA Champions League.
According to AS, the Red devils have contacted Atletico and have offered a deal worth around €80m (£68.5m) for Llorente. The report claims the La Liga leaders are not ready to sell the player, but they are now reconsidering their options after United’s proposal.
But, one hurdle for United will be Llorente’s desire to remain at the club as it’s believed that the midfielder does not want to leave.
Llorente is reported to be aware of Atletico’s financial problems and has not demanded any increment in salary to reflect his impressive displays.
AS claim that United made their first approach during the January window last year but Llorente was interested in sticking with Atletico.

Speaking about the player’s future, the midfielder’s agent and uncle, Julio, conceded that he had received interest from teams outside of La Liga.
‘I have received many calls about him, and we have talked about this,’ he told Cadena SER. ‘Right now, he wants to stay at Atletico. But the last call I received about him was back in May, and it was not from a Spanish club.’
